Original plan was to go just Galisteo but having arrived there at about 12:00 and still feeling good, 4 of us, 2 Italians, 1 French and I decided to continue on another 12km to Carcaboso which will make tomorrow's stage shorter
Left the albergue just before dawn at about 7:45. The sky was just starting to get light as we set out along the road to see them all dayfor a short way before turning onto a gravel road that lead down to join the path we were on yesterday
As the sun came over the horizon on our right, because we are always traveling north, we were able to make out snow covered mountains tot the north east. We continued to see them all day.
It was very cold when we set out, the temperature was in the 40's but S soon as the sun came up it got warmer quickly and layers started to come off.
The first part from Grimaldo to Galisteso was as beautiful as yesterday. Through fields of cows, across streams on stepping stones, some of which were very wobbly but managed to keep our feet mostly dry. The trail continued across fields
Through lots of gates and always the view of the mountains.
Later it opened up as we approached Galisteo. Here we come across a herd of cows who were more nosy than normal
On of them who looked very pregnant decided to look threatening but waving my hiking poles and shouting at her made her back off
There seems to be a lot of irrigation and we passed several aqueducts related to this.
Galisteo is an old walled town and love led interesting as we approached over a restored Roman bridge.
Finally after about 4 hours we reached Galistea and headed for somewhere to get something to drink and a snack while we decided whether to stay here for the night to head out again for an addition 12km to get to Carcaboso for the night and save us from having to do this stretch in the morning.
Although it was now getting hot as the sun was high in the sky we decided to head out. The city was pretty but did not look as if it was worth spending the rest of the day here and he albergue was not particularly welcoming.
So off we set, 4 of us for the 4 hour stretch to Carcaboso. The mountains were still in view
We soon found that this part of the Camino is all along a road on the side of the blacktop and not comfortable walking. In fact it was very tiring, especially in the hot sun and we made frequent 5 minute stops to rest our legs and take a good drink as long as our water lasted.
We went through one village and finally we dragged ourselves into Carcaboso, found the albergue and settled in. It has only been open for about 3 weeks and is very nice. There are 28 beds which also provide sheets so no need for sleeping bag for a change. Nice showers etc. tonight there will be just 3 of us here since the Italians went to a different albergue and there was someone from holland already here, so a good nights sleep is almost guaranteed. Also good wifi.
I had some clothes that needed washing so we all put our clothes together and put them in the washing machine. They were soon ready and we hung them out in the sun to dry which didn't take more than about an hour.
After settling in went for a walk through town and the French lady bought some food to cook a meal together tonight. The Dutchman already had some things so it was all put together and we had a very nice meal together including a bottle of nice red wine, sorry but I don't have a photo of it.
Now it's time to get ready for bed and see what tomorrow brings. Since we walked the extra km today it should be an easier day and the weather is forecast to be similar to today.
